From my back porch in Turtle Shores, I saw a doe bounding across the tall marsh grass toward the higher ground of the neighborhood. She kept stopping and looking back toward the river. Then I saw a little head bobbing out of the deeper grass. It was a fawn trying to keep up with her. He had to jump just to see her over the grass, and for me to see him. When he finally reached grass he could see over, his mother turned back toward the river. She again kept looking back for him, but I lost sight of him in the tall grass.
