At the beach or on the beach

by | Sep 19, 2024 | Ponte Vedra

While driving to SPVCA’s Ladies Who Lunch with Fran Rodriguez of Neptune Beach, I mentioned my friend Lea who lives on the beach. Did I say “at the beach”? I don’t think so, but Fran got confused because she thought I was referring to a location up her way. I had Fran explain via phone dictation while we sat early in the parking lot of the restaurant:

“Atlantic Beach, Neptune Beach, Jacksonville Beach, and Ponte Vedra Beach are considered the beaches area in my opinion. South Ponte Vedra is whatever, but when you do this, South Ponte Vedra that’s going into St Augustine.”

I said, “But I was referring to someone living ON the beach.”

Fran said, “I live at the beaches. That’s considered part of Jacksonville Beach and Atlantic Beach and Neptune Beach. The SPVCA clubhouse is not South Ponte Vedra to me. That’s going into St Augustine to me. To people who live in those beaches areas, to say you live at the beach means you live in one of those beach communities. It’s different for someone who lives on the beach. The distinction is living at the beach versus on the beach.
